Emerging Cambridge Local Plan up for debate on 04 Nov 2025 at The Guildhall

It’s still not clear how this will co-ordinate with the Cambridge Growth Company’s plans – but the plan period has been extended to 2045

The appendices for a start cover:

  • Appendix A Glossary 705
  • Appendix B Sources of data used in infographics 726
  • Appendix C Identifying the Strategic Policies in the Greater CambridgeLocal Plan 729
  • Appendix D Housing requirements for neighbourhood areas withinGreater Cambridge 745
  • Appendix E Housing trajectory and five year housing land supplycalculation 748
  • Appendix F Monitoring indicators 750
  • Appendix G Marketing, local needs assessments and viability appraisals 796
  • Appendix H Skyline and tall buildings guidance 804
  • Appendix I Shopfront guidance 819

…which means over 700 pages to browse through before-hand. If I recall correctly the previous local plan was just over 500 pages.

“Does it cover leisure facilities?”

So far the document on retail and leisure does.

“New Use Class F includes education, display of works of art, museums, public libraries, public halls or exhibition halls, public worship, law courts, halls and meeting places, outdoor sport and recreation, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Some of these will not be relevant to or located with a Local Centre, but policy should give consideration to the inclusion of wider social and community facilities underpinning social inclusion and accessibility and addressing social isolation.”

But that’s only a definition.

“On transport?”

No mention of trams or light rail in the county council’s document but that will need a refresh in light of the Mayor’s emerging local transport plan – the fourth in just over a decade.

“On the Greenbelt?”

There is a huge amount to take in. Figuring out how best to scrutinise this without being overwhelmed is a task in itself.

Food for thought?
