First candidates lists for local elections published

South Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon District Councils will be holding their final elections in the relatively short-lived histories as district councils – having been formed in 1974.

Cambridge City Council didn’t publish theirs today, which is unusual.

You can read:

Note with both both of the districts above, there are ***lots*** of people who were elected unopposed to parish and town council seats.

Traditionally people put their party-political differences aside in parish and town councils – it used to be the case with local government many moons ago. The culture being that maintaining bus shelters and village greens are not the sort of topic for party political debate.
