With so many consultations taking place and so many reports needing to be scrutinised, I continue to host discussion events at neighbourhood level in and around Cambridge to enable groups of residents to learn the essentials and to explore in depth particular issues that the proposals we’re scrutinising raise.
The Cambridge Development Corporation – proposed area and boundary
The consultation has been launched and lasts for eight weeks

The next event
Every second Sunday of the month the Queen Edith’s Community Forum hosts a free community cafe. Although not a formal event, one of the ward councillors is there for local residents to raise any issues – even on the future of the city. Also, others often join in the conversations. Sunday 08 Feb from 2pm at Nightingale Rec Pavilion. Other options include:
- The wonderful new Oz and Isle bar in the old Police Station on Regent Street (I went last week to see the new renovation – it’s splendid!) A weekday late morning or mid-afternoon?
- Cambridge Wine Merchants on Cherry Hinton Road – A weekday evening?
- The Rock Pub, Cherry Hinton Road (you can tell my mobility is limited these days!) – Sunday mid-afternoon?
- Cherry Hinton hub/cafe/library – weekday during the day, Saturday early afternoon?
Alternatively you may have your own suggested community venues, which you may arrange for people to meet at. (Am happy to bring along printouts and discussion items).
Past events
The first pilot event took place on Sat 30 Sept 2023 at Rock Road Library. Six people had signed up by the day of the event, and fourteen turned up – more than double what I was expecting! (A pleasant surprise!)
With thanks to Cllr Stephen Ferguson (Ind – St Neots East), former Mayor of St Neots and also recently the Chairman of Cambridgeshire County Council for this review of the session on 26 October 2023
Do you want me to bring a selection of books on politics and government, or on Cambridge local history, for you to take away at the end of each workshop?

Above – a selection of some of the books that might be in the crate – depending on who gets what first!
Can’t make it but would like to go to a future workshop?
You can:
- Leave a comment on The Cambridge Town Owl on F-Book
- Email me antonycarpen [at[ gmail [dot] com
- If you are a member of a constituted community or local campaign group, or a residents’ association (See FeCRA here to see if you have one where you live), invite one of the constituted officers to get in touch with me and we can see if we can arrange one in a community centre, library, or other publicly-accessible venue in your part of our city.
Thank you for reading!
