They are back by popular demand, with the first two at Rock Road Library, and the Cherry Hinton Library and Hub. Free/donations
…because I don’t want price to be a barrier. Hence asking those that can afford it to help cover for them given how unequal our city is.

“Why are these being organised again?”
Because ministers and others have lots of proposals for the future of our city, and not enough residents know what they are, let alone how to let decision-makers know their concerns.
Council discussions on new local planning documents
I tabled a public question to Cambridge City Council on 04 Nov 2025 about the looming consultation, and you can watch the video here – after which councillors discuss the detail of ALL OF THESE DOCUMENTS which we were told amounts to over 8,000 pages.
Another reason for having these workshops – more minds doing the scrutiny makes for slightly lighter work.
The same set of documents were debated on 06 Nov 2025 by South Cambridgeshire District Council and you can watch their debate here.
If you already have questions/issues, please raise them with your local councillors in the first instance via https://www.writetothem.com/
The future of Cambridge 2025 onwards – what I’ve already covered
It’s pick’n’mix with the ones below.
- Wellcome Genome Campus at Hinxton – up to 9,000 new jobs (huge public transport issues)
- North East Cambridge – proposals from Crown Estate plus consultation events over the next week
- New garden town east of Cambridge north of Granta Park by the A11 – replacing the abandoned relocation of the Milton Water Works
- Sustained growth in student numbers from Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin Uni – what impact will this have?
- Proposed overground tram orbital proposed by Cambs Sustainable Travel Alliance
- Healthy Greater Cambridge report from The Cambridge Room, I went to the launch event
- Early analysis for the new Cambridge East Station at Cambridge Airport/Coldham’s Lane
- North Cambourne – the doubling of the size of Cambourne New Town – but why such bland architecture? (And does such urban design make people ill?)
- Proposed redevelopment of The Cambridge Leisure Park, AKA ‘The Cattle Market’ site or “The Junction’ site
- Consortium proposes new forest city east of Cambridge
- Minister for Housing proposes a centrally-led development corporation for Greater Cambridge.
- University of Cambridge makes a big push for civic engagement – I’m on their new community engagement sounding board
- Chatteris Reservoir Consultation number three! They are getting into the detail of what should be in/around the reservoir. I think a new suburban or light rail link should be built to fee the leisure facilities and increase connectivity to Chatteris town.
- Cambourne-2-Cambridge busway – the public inquiry
- Local Growth Plan by the Combined Authority – which includes a concert hall proposal for the city but the local plan must be consistent with Combined Authority policies including this and the emerging local transport plan. See the recently-published Transport Committee papers.
- The massive increase of Eddington
There are a number of local groups paying close attention to what is happening, and from a range of different interests
I cannot cover them all – not least all of the parish councils in South Cambridgeshire. (See the list from South Cambs DC here). The closest we have to an equivalent in Cambridge City are local residents’ associations – represented by FECRA <– Get in touch with them to find out your local residents’ association. See also the city councils’ residents’ associations pages here.
The groups/campaigns I am familiar with include:
- Cambridge Past, Present, and Future
- Cambridgeshire Sustainable Travel Alliance (see their members)
- CamCycle
- Cambridge Area Bus Users Group
- Living Streets Cambridge (pedestrians etc)
- Rail Future East – which meets in Cambridge on Saturday 6th December 2025 – Cambridge at 14:00 at The Signal Box Community Centre, Glenalmond Avenue, Cambridge CB2 8DB
- Cambridge CVS <– Contact them for details of their many members!
